Too Many Blogs to Read, Get the most active content with AideRSS

Just got to know this morning about this service called aideRSS (via ReadWriteWeb). I follow about 500 feeds a day (used to have about a 1000 couple of months back, manage to trim it down to 500). 500 is still an overwhelming number. I was looking for a way to pick up the most talked about posts – posts with the most comments, links etc. aideRSS does precisely that.

You feed it your OPML file. OPML is a list of blogs you subscribe too. Most RSS readers would let you export OPML.

And it does some analysis on the individual posts inside of the blogs and gets you a list of posts. You can sort the result according to their “Postrank” – a ranking algorithm developed by AideRSS. A high “Postrank” means that a lot more people are commenting on or linking to the post.

aideRSS also gives you a filtered feed that shows you only the posts that have a higher Postrank.

  1. [...] As you can see throughout the rest of the issue, there were lots of new media conferences this past month with GV participation. Most of us have a difficult time writing a single blog post while attending a confernece. Ethan Zuckerman, on the other hand, writes several each day. And as Mohamed Nanabhay points out, he even liveblogs his own panels. Both Gilad Lotan and Preetam Rai are trying out aideRSS as a way to “read what matters.” Abdullatif Al Omar questions the brand name of a cleaning product in Kuwait while Drima takes a look at an Intel ad that was pulled after drawing blogger criticism. Rookie Honduran author Aaron Ortiz has come across some brilliant political cartoons. Tim Muth has an interesting look at sex in El Salvador. Panamanian author Melissa de Leon has, by far, the best pet picture this month and Luis Carlos snapped an amazing picture of Caracas at sunset. [...]
